We are thinking of taking a trip in October through the Blue Ridge Mountains and wonder if any of you have taken that trip and can recommend campgrounds and things to see and do....we are mainly interested in seeing the turning of the leaves....thanks....Eleanor

Smile Blue Ridge Parkway

Otter Creek near where the BRP crosses the James River is a great place to camp. You dry camp beside a nice creek. Please check before planning on staying there. I've heard rumors that it has been closed due to damage from recent storms (VA was hit again today). There is a private campground (I think it's called Wildwood) that's only a couple of miles from the exit near Otter Creek. The Peaks of Otter near Bedford, VA is another good place along the BRP.

Default Otter Creek

Otter Creek campground on the Blue Ridge Parkway is open. It was closed while one of the hurricanes came thru VA.
