Default Entertainment center build

One of the things we like to have is entertainment available for rain days and evenings when you do not want to be out by the fire. I decided the best way to do this with a TM is to make an entertainment center with a manual lift. I am not a carpenter, nor do I play one on TV, but I figured why not try it.

This is just a simple board mounted to the back of the tv using the screws originally meant for the legs. The tv is a cheap 32" from Sam's Club.

I removed that board, added a shelf at the bottom and drawer slide to lift and lower the tv.

This is where I began to frame around it using a face frame method to keep the weight down. I ran a router on the inside of the frame to add 1/4 inch ply later.

I am using strips to retain the plywood in the frame. I usually glue and screw them in, but I wanted to allow for expansion and contraction more than an interior house build. I ended up changing a couple of these strips out to make them full length, allowing them to be guides for the tv as it goes up and down.

To be continued due to pic limits......

This is how the panels look when done.

This is the tv and speakers going in. I left myself a space in the bottom for cords and power supplies.

This is my simple method to keep it in the up position. Just lift it and turn these out to keep it up.

View from the couch. It works great!

Stored and ready to go. I will add retention to it, but there is less than 1/4 inch between the trash can and the fridge, so it should not go anywhere.

It also stores out of the way during camping.

I turned the table we removed from the couch into a desk. It gives us a place to use our laptop when one of us wakes up early, as our daughter sleeps on the couch. We have added a curtain so we do not wake her up.

Hmmmm
Need to figure out a way to add mini torsion bars to aid lifting.

How about 1 or 2 of the spring-loaded shock absorber thingies that are used to lift automotive tailgates? They come in all sorts of lengths and strengths. You could attach them to the board on the back of the TV, or maybe at the sides.

By the way, what are those spring-loaded shock absorber thingies called?
