Default Camping in West Virginia

We intended staying in a KOA near Princeton, WVa.We were late in arriving and tried to call and let them know.Phone out of service. We foolishly plunged on.It was dark, we were tired the road was narrow.Ken pulled over to let a following vehicle pass and they asked if we needed help.In answer to our distressed inquiry, they told us that KOA had been closed for over a year!Yikes!Ken was able to turn us around on a dark narrow, curvy and hilly road.He did a marvelous job, but we were really stressed out.We were ready to stay in a motel, when we passed a Walmart Super Center. You've got it.We camped in the lot among the semis and two other very luxurious RVs.Seems Walker Tunnel was only one lane going north and many had been delayed for 2 hours on the highway. We were pretty much positive that we would never do such a thing, but it worked out very well.We were so tired and our 90 #
pup was ready for a reprieve.Truly, it was a port in our storm. We saw the first fall color of the trip the next morning on the hillside behind the store.Definitely not a destination point, but a welcome, safe place to stop. Olga and Ken

My wife and I were in WV in September and had a very difficult time finding an RV park. We finally located one outside of Morgantown (which was not on our route). It was a Good Sam Park, but not one that I would recommend. We learned that WV is very sparse when it come to commercial RV parks. However, it is very beautiful.

We stayed in Blackwater State Park in WV. Really beautiful place, highly recommended if you're in the area.

Beech Fork State Park in Huntington is quite nice. A small lake, full hookups available if needed, inexpensive. Sites on the small size.
