Ideally inside and open. Then inside and closed. Then outside and closed would be my suggestions. If stored outside with a cover, be sure the cover "breathes"
Or you create more problems than you prevent.

I store mine open, because we use it all the time.

I am looking at a fabric "garage" that is too small to open the TM completely, but no issue leaving it partly open by not locking it down but leaving it folded up. Is that ok?

In your climate I would leave it closed and latched, keeps the critters working harder.

Depends: full open or full closed is a good block against unwanted tenants. If that is not an issue then fine.

Most I have seen are less than 20 feet long.

The least amount of problems I have had with mine is open.

It was in a camp ground, open in a site, for 1.5 years with no critter nor mice/rat problems.

Closing it up at home and storing it in the yard, ohhhhhh totally different situation.

Two things to consider

Snow. Not a problem in Alabama, of course, but in other areas, don't let it accumulate on an open camper. Check the Owner's Manual.

Wind. Very much a potential problem in Alabama, and many other places as well. An open TM stands up well to some pretty strong winds, but hurricane force may be another matter.

I would not consider leaving it partly open. The lift mechanism, as it is connected to the shells, is not designed for the forces that will result from unsecured shells that wobble and sway in the wind.

Thanks Bill and others. You have convinced me to store it closed or get the RV version of this fabric shelter to leave it open.
