Default Glue Suggestions for Counter

The thin strip of counter material on the side of my counter is loose. I want to reglue it. It's by the sink. I was thinking Elmer's originally but doesn't that get too thick? I'd like it to be thin and look original. Being near the sink, water proof would be good. Anyone know what kind of glue those counter tops use? Any suggestions on what to to try?

Matt -

It was almost certainly contact cement, available anywhere. The fact that the strip has pulled off probably means that the edge of the Formica trim strip, where it meets the Formica on the countertop, was not beveled correctly. We discussed this problem several years ago, and I thought TM had taken it in hand. I don't know the year of your TM (why don't you add it to your sig line?), but if it is new, that's disappointing. The good news, I guess, is that the strip pulled off, rather than chipping.

A quick Search on "Formica" brings up at least the following.

I used Titebond III for that repair. To clamp, put a piece of plastic wrap over the edge (glue won't stick to it), put a piece of scrap wood on top of that, and then the clamp on top of the wood. Worked like a champ, and has held up well.
