Default Gettysburg and Hershey PA campgrounds

We are going to camp somewhere near Hershey, PA and the Gettysburg area to visit both.
Has anyone visited the area recently and can recommend a decent campground.

We specifically need dog friendly and shaded sites if possible with a pool or hot tub.

If you had a bad experience I would appreciate it so I can avoid that one.

I can't speak for any place specifically, but I have found this site useful on occasion to get an overall sense of the quality of a campground.

Gettysburg, Hershey, and the Pennsylvania Dutch country are great camping destinations. We particularly enjoy Hershey Park, Hershey's Chocolate World, the chocolate factory in Lititz, and the farmers' market in Bird in Hand (yes, they really eat well up there). As for accommodations, the one suggestion I would make is to avoid the campsites along the railroad tracks at Hershey Highmeadow Campground. Otherwise, we've always had great visits.

Post Recommendation

The Gettysburg Campground is always our first choice. Facilities and staff are first-rate, in my opinion. We've been there twice and will go there again, when we return to Gettysburg.

Happy Camping!

We hosted a rally for another group at the Gettysburg Campground and fully concur with Virginia Deacon that it is a top notch facility with great folks running it.

I have been here three nights and agree it is a nice place.

That being said I have to agree that the train noise at night is very annoying. The lower the site the further from the train tracks the better. We got a mid way up site and have to run the air conditioner at night to sleep through the trains going by.

We have staryed at Artillery Ridge about four or five times. It is a good campground and has a riding stable for horse back battlefield tours ($$$). It is accross the road from a battlefield, and down the road about 1/2 mile from the Gettysburg Civil War Museum.
