Default 4 inch matress topper

Some time ago someone talked about a 4 inch matress topper from overstock.com that they used to replace their matress. I'm looking into the same thing and would like some info on this. Especially from someone that has done this and how happy are you with this setup? Is it too hard or too soft etc.

Thanks

Is this it? It is the only Search tool hit on "Overstock". You might try searching on other words.

We use a 2" memory foam topper (from Overstock.com) that lays on top of the TM matress. Widens the bed sides to the very edges and makes the POS TM bed setup much more comfortable. It's a heavy beast that we do have to remove (and store) to close the TM, but the extra work is worth it to us. Sleep is golden to us on a camping trip, since we usually have physical activity scheduled the next day.

Hey Joe...I remember reading about the 4 inch memory foam mattress pad on here. I can't find it though. I did find this though:

http://www.overstock.com/Home-Garden...3/product.html

At less then 75.00 for a King size I am very tempted.

I would rather have this one though:

I'm not sure I'd use a full memory foam mattress as a replacement--I've heard its lack of underlying support can become uncomfortable, when used alone. We've made a replacement with a 4 inch combined memory foam over standard foam mattress. Shells close fine, and it's far more comfortable than stock.

I've posted the overstock.com link: http://www.overstock.com/Home-Garden...3/product.html

I think our mattress topper on our bed at home would bottom out. We got it at Costco a couple years ago, and love it, but I think it might not keep you off the plywood if used by itself.

I hesitate to mention this in a thread talking about a high tech memory foam 4" mattress topper, but... Last summer we were camping in Chincoteague and found a $10 3/4" cheapo egg-crate foam mattress topper at the Family Dollar store. It is really a great improvement, just enough to soften the standard TM mattress a little, and not thick enough to be a problem with clearance when the shell comes down!

That's what we use. Ours is maybe a bit thicker (1"?), though I'm not sure how you measure the thickness of egg crate foam. Anyway, it makes our TM mattress more comfortable than the expensive ones we have at home. We remark on it every time we go out.

Default 4 inch mattress topper

We have a 4in memory foam topper on top of the original TM mattress that we bought from BB&B (for tooo much). I wouldn't do it again, although my DW loves it.

One problem for me is that the mattress retains my body heat in all that foam that surrounds me. So far, with the cooler weather, this has not been that much of a problem, but I think that during the Summer months I might have to find a better solution.

A second problem is that as we crawl into and out of the TM fold-out that is our bed, our knees sink into the mattress just about that 4in each time which makes for a tangle of sheets during the night (we have to get up occasionally ) However, I have found some tarp clamps (Coleman) which along with some some elastic tapes might help to retain the sheets.

I don't mean to say that any of the above outweighs a good night's sleep in my estimation.

Default matress topper

We use the self inflating 4" ones from LL Bean. They are very similar to the thermarest types that many back packers use only much harder to roll up. No knees sinking into the matress, no tangled sheet, no fighting over the covers. Since we each have our own we can set hardness of them to suit each person.
Down side is they cost a lot more then foam.

We use a 6" air mattress and 3" memory foam topper that we got from Costco. It is unbelievably comfortable and we don't have to remove the topper to fold down.

I plumbed an in inflater tube to the edge of the bed so that I don't have to stretch to attach the electric inflater. When we get ready to fold down, we make the bed, unscrew the air-fill cap and the thing deflates in seconds, ready to fold down.

The down side is, we use a 2-step step ladder to get in bed. It's a lot more sturdy than that plastic step.
