2009 27/20sl

I just purchased a 2009 27/20SL trail and I have two questions. One can you tell me what the two black drain taps under the trailer on the side opposite the door are for and two when I turn the water pump on water comes out the city water hookup is there a shutoff for this? Thanks John

As you are facing the street side of your 2720SL:
(right to left)
Two Small water drain lines(mine are white)
Rear drain = Grey tank(black)
Front drain = Toilet(black)
Two small water drain lines(mine are white)

As for the water coming out -- sounds abnormal as mine does not do that.

Congratulations on your new acquisition -- i hope you enjoy it as much as we do ours.

You might consider becoming a full member of the board as it will open up a wealth of information about maintaining your TM that is out of your reach until you become a member.

The two taps are drains to empty the fresh water tank and the hot water heater.

If water is coming out the city water connection when you use the pump, something is very wrong. Do your faucets produce water when the pump is on?

I'll echo Tim about joining the board. There are a ton of resources here that are particularly useful for a new owner.

Sounds like the check valve is faulty in the recessed water inlet. You need to replace it:

Agreed. It's not a difficult fix, it should just unscrew from the pipe. It's a bit tight under the kitchen sink on the SL models, but if you need more room, the drain elbow for the sink is very easily removed by unscrewing the two parts that hold it on. Once removed there's plenty of space to get to the back wall and replace the check valve.

Sounds like the fresh water drain lines. Water backflushing the city water tap sounds like a defective check valve. If you put a cap on the exterior tap that will hold it until you can replace the check valve...

You know, if the cap is on and there's still water coming out of there...is it leaking interior or exterior? If interior, that valve might have just unscrewed a bit, and a little "elbow grease" to tighten it might help. If it's coming out the actual opening, not around the threads, then it's a faulty valve for sure. A tight fitting cap, as recommended above, would work. They're available in any bigger store that has gardening/hose type stuff, often used to cap of a hose in, say, an above ground sprinkler type setup. Problem is, those are usually female threads, as is the city port, so a male-male connector (usually also readily available) would be needed.

If you do cap it, DON'T FORGET to remove all that before closing down the TM. It'll likely stick out too far, and you could get internal damage on the shell wall as a result.

Water will come out of the water heater drain valve even on city water. If water is coming out of both then there is a valve problem. If only one, then you are OK. Just close both during use.

Since you mention the water pump, and the water fill connection, I assume you are talking about the fresh water system, not the black and gray drain system. If this is correct, you will find a helpful diagram here

As shown in the diagram, there are actually four drain valves under the TM, at least three of which have black knobs on my TM. And bottom line, I think Mike is right - there is a one-way check valve at the high pressure garden-hose inlet, and it sounds like yours is defective.

I'm going to let this post stand for a day or two. Then I will move it into the Plumbing section where it belongs, and give it a meaningful title. At that point, you will lose sight of it unless you have become a Sponsor. C'mon in, the Forum's fine!
