Default New 3023

Picked a NTU 3023-2009. DW found it in Grand Rapid, MI. The condition is good to very good. We put a deposit down and 2 weeks later picked it up and camped on the way home. Sold our 2720-2003.

The new camper has a 5,2K axle with 12" brakes. swing hitch, two high mount cabinets, low profile AC bike rack hitch, 1 G24 battery, propane low pressure outside quick disconnect, electric tongue jack.

Started some mods: installed two battery boxes, modified breakaway brake wire to directly connect to battery, installed battery switch, Switched out battery fuse from glass to blade fuse, switch out all 1156 and T10 type bulbs to LED, switch out bathroom light to a 2 bulb - 2 switch LED fixture. Installed a pump accumulator tank, Adjusted the roof height, replaced a fender skirt that was cracked.

To-do's: Need to find a LED solution for the 3 fluorescent light fixtures, Need to fix rubber seals around bottom of door, switch out tires with GY Endurance, re-pack hubs and inspect brakes, install 2 G31 batteries. Add a radio/radio antenna switch. Good cleaning, Pack our stuff.

Anyone have a solution for switching out the 12 inch g5 fluorescent bulbs to LED? I'm leaning on using the goldstar LED tubes

I'm interested on replacing the 12" fluorescent in the bathroom with LED too. That fluorescent creates a ton of radio noise.

Now, fluorescent bulbs require a high voltage, which is the source of the electrical noise. I'm assuming that voltage source is in the fluorescent fixture, not the tube. This means that replacing the tube alone will not remove the noise. Also, if you are replacing the fluorescent with the idea of conserving energy, you will want to replace the fixture as well. I'm sure a fixture that is designed for LED cannot be that much more than an LED tube itself.

Just found this neat site:

Yes, there is a small inverter in the ballast.

I replaced the entire fixture with an LED one. Amazon has lots of fixtures at good prices. Two old screw holes show. It is less expensive, easier, and better than hacking the old fixture. No RF noise. The trailer is a ham station, so that's important.

Believe me, you don't have to be a ham operator to appreciate low RF noise. I cannot listen to any AM radio if the bathroom light is on. I can't image how frustrating it would be like as a ham operator!

Default Update to led

Camping world has a retro fit led for the fluorescent light that is easy install with online video. Much brighter and more efficient. Sorry but don't have link

Goodstar on amazon has a modification kit, for about $11. You bypass the ballast and run 12V to the tube ends, but there is also a wire in the center of the tube. I don't like that wire.

Goldstar also has a complete 12" 2 tube LED fixture for about $23 with no center wire, but the fixture is twice as thick. The LED tubes on this fixture is the same 12" size and same connections as the fluorescent tubes. Im wonder if I can use those tubes. Remove the ballast and re-wire the current fixture to have 12v on the headstone connectors. I'm concerned with the thickness when closing the shells with the goldstar fixture since the will be over the bed?

I think some have used these. I'm planning on trying it for my bathroom light, since the ballast on it went about two years ago. I've just been using a small lamp in there since then.

Thanks for your best wishes. The highlander did seem to pull it well.

We spent the weekend cleaning the inside, restocking the camper, repacking the hubs, adjusting the brakes, installing a switch to turn off the radio and radio antenna.
