Default Mattress Pads

Like most people, we find the mattress that comes with the TM is way too hard. We have a 2007 2720 SL and have been using an air mattress with reasonable success. However, we are considering placing the stock mattress back in and putting on a 3" Tempur-pedic mattress topper on. Has anyone tried similarly and has it worked (meaning able to close the camper)? Has anyone found a thickness that definitely will work, but not to exceed a certain thickness.

More importantly, what other solutions have people found?

Lots of threads on this topic. 4" works fine, I believe. My current "AirDream" is air-over-coil, listed at 4.5 - 5" but very compressible at that, so I still close just fine, even with the blanket still on the bed.

Yup, lots of threads and lots of answers. In my TM, we have a 1-1/2" foam topper that can stay in place when the camper is closed, but a thick quilt above it cannot. Sadly, there is no hard-and-fast rule. It really depends on the height adjustment of your rear shell. The only way to really figure it out is to try it, and be prepared to unload the bed if needed.

WE have a 2" memory foam waffle topper on the factory mattress. We sleep really good. Several camping trips back, we were talking about how well we always sleep when camping. Not sure its the mattress, or maybe just being under the stars?

Default One inch gel foam topper

I read the threads and wandered the web. Talked to Marcy about her learnings. Today I bought a one inch thick gel foam topper from Mattress Insider (www.mattressinsider.com). They cut to match the 78" x 78" bed platform in our 3124. Did not ask for backing, cotton pad, etc, which they can do if needed.

The gel foam is more open than the memory foam but still 4#/ft3 density. Supposed to be cooler. Should deliver early next week to my door for $152.

We have the '07 model year, which provides a 5" foam mattress in a reasonably durable cover. Not a bad bed, just a smidge hard on our hips. Hopefully this 1" gel foam will just take the hard edge of enough that we wake up without remarking about our sore hips.
