Campland on the Bay, San Diego
Hi folks,
Last week the DW and I took two grandsons, 9 and 7, to Campland on the Bay at Mission Bay in San Diego, CA. Before the trip we drove down and checked out 4 campgrounds in the area. If we were going w/o kids we would go into the KOA at Chula Vista. However, Campland was the most kid friendly by far.
It is a big campground. It has two large grass areas where the staff organizes things like soccer and flag football for kids. There is a beach swimming area and a marina where folks can rent kayaks, water trikes, and paddle boats.
They have two swimming pools and two jacuzzi's. The also have basketball courts and a skateboard area. The bathrooms are large, clean, and well serviced. They take campers from tents up to the big motorhomes. They have a good store on site and a restaurant that serves beer and mixed drinks. It opens from 3:00 pm to 8:00pm.
The kids spent one whole day digging on the beach and swimming in the pools. Another day we took them to the model railroad museum and the IMAX theater in Balboa Park.
All in all, a great place. We were there mid-week, so I'm sure it is much more crowded on weekends. I would say there was 40% occupancy during our stay. I would go back the next time we take grandkids.
Tom
