Not sure I have the right lenses to take pictures. Anyone figure out the minimum digital camera and/or 35mm lense length needed? Also, what cheap filter to use?

I'm going to need to figure out if the lenses and multipliers I have will work. No new lenses in my future. But a filter I will get.

We are planning to arrive on Saturday. We ended up with site #14. Was going to grab #54 also in the beach loop, but I waited too long. Wife wants to be next to a bath house.

I probably won't bother with filters myself because I just plan to take video with my Nikon L820 during totality. However, if you want to take pictures during the partial phase, it's pretty easy to make up your own filter from a small piece of Baader AstroSolar film. I've been using it on on telescopes and binoculars for twenty years.

We should be there Friday afternoon. Thanks for the tip on the filter. I was hoping to use my digital camera, maybe I have to use my old 35mm OM1 because of lenses?

When it comes to photographing the eclipse, make sure to do your homework and understand the risks. A filter on your dSLR can be a great way to capture images for a lifetime, but for the sake of your vision make sure it's secure. A filter that pops off at the wrong time can wreck your vision permanently.

The eclipse is not safe to view through a camera lens, nor by the naked eye, until it reaches totality. Still you will be tempted. "Just a quick peek" you tell your self. What can it hurt... and the light gathered by a camera lens crashes into your eye and burns a permanent momentous of the eclipse into your retina.

OK... enough drama. Make sure to use protection during the eclipse... wait... that could have been said better...

For the record, I'm bringing my Celestron C8 with a solar filter, my T6i with a 500 mm lens (just the right size for capturing the sun's image at totality), and a solar filter for the 500 millimeter lens (shopping for it now).

Expect I'll be viewing the eclipse in St. Joseph, Mo if all goes according to plan... looking for an astronomy merit badge councellor for my Son, We'll be at Indian cave the day before and after.

181 Days and counting

The 500 mm lens that I have is a Pentax lens I got for $10 at goodwill. I put a $20 adapter on it and it mounts to my Canon T6i.

Anyone planning to see the eclipse at st Joseph mo airport: some links

The General link is here:
http://www.stjosepheclipse.com/

Parking reservations here:
https://event.attendstar.com/event/s...-solar-eclipse

Note parking reservations close aug 1. Don't wait!

Parking is $20. Camping is availible adjacent to the airport, but I still plan on camping at Indian cave.

Look for our 2720SL in site #77 then be sure to stop by and say hello.
And here's a shout out to 'oldstick', please stop by the CG in Dillard,GA and say hello as well.

Did you receive your email from River Vista?

They are going to charge $10 per person if they were not on the original reservation. They are also trying to sell T-shirts. I'm thinking that Dillard is going to look a lot like Woodstock.
