Default Lid Pin on Thetford Toilet

The long hinge pin that holds the lid on the toilet is extremely rusty and needs to be replaced. Has anyone done this that can give me some insight into how to get replace it?

I'm also concerned that I might not be able to get the part. I'm checking on that now.

I just looked at the Thetford exploded view and it looks like two small pins. Question is the same though. In fact, it looked like you had to order a bunch of stuff I don't need to get the two pins so if anyone can give me a parts suggestion I'd appreciate it.

If I remember correctly those that ordered Thetford pparts from Sears eventually found out they were out of stock and never reordered. Check before you order.

Sage advice Bob. I think I remember those posts. I might have to try to find something from the local hardware.

Just a final follow up to this post. MCD in Hyannis was able to order just pins. You need to split rings too. The old ones were so rusty I had difficulty getting one of them out. Just for the heck of it, I sprayed the pins and rings with a clear lacquer and also put lithium grease on them before reinstalling them. Total cost was around $8 plus paper towels and grease.....

I think instead of split rings you meant to say c-clips...
