Default Transporting fuel

I just discovered the Scepter fuel can. I will likely be picking one up soon.

Larry -

These cans look good. I'll be interested in your report after you have used one. In particular, does it smell at all? I find it hard to ride in a car with a smelly gas can, even if it is just to get home from the gas station. And yes, I know it is not recommended to have a gas can in the passenger compartment.

It looks like you have to buy the pour spout as a separate item. I can live with that, although it brings the cost of a can to well over C$100. But it also looks like it doesn't have the dopey, leaky, spout shutoff valve that now seems to be required on all US gas cans. Maybe that is why the ad says they will ship to Canada only.

Will you be bringing a dozen of these with you next time you cross the border?

I could bring a couple down, but I find it hard to believe the US doesn't sell then too. Probably cheaper too.

If it can truly be transported safely inside the TV, it would save you feel can from being exposed to the hot sun which can increase pressures inside the fuel can. Of course, the cheap ones leak so much that's probably not a concern.

Lord, I HATE the new (I guess I should say 'latest' - they've been required for awhile now...) US gas cans and the obnoxious way you have to press down with the spout for it to open. It's virtually impossible to put gas in my mower with the new style cans, due to the angle required to engage the spout, etc. Luckily, I have several old style...

Looks like the Scepter was available on Amazon at one time - currently unavailable. Most likely due to the regulations here. Perhaps a military surplus store would have some?

OHHH - but they ARE available on ebay - several of them, although a tad expensive...

Holly -

At least a mower is heavy enough to stay in place while you push the can around. Try putting gas into a chain saw. You really need three hands - one to hold the saw, one to hold and tilt the can, and one to manually open the valve.

Oh good grief - never thought of a chain saw, or my weed whacker - since I still have the old style 1 gallon for the 2-stroke fuel. Whew!

Smile New 5 gallon gas can

I have no need to carry gasoline in the car/TV for camping. But I do have a
boat on a slip at the marina. Gasoline prices at the fuel dock in the marina are
outrageous! So, I bought a new style can and nozzle made by a company
called 'No-Spill' > No-Spill 5 Gal Gas Can
This new can is even approved in California.
This can will not address the issues with small gasoline powered tools that
Bill mentioned but it sure made filling my boat tank safer and easier not to
mention cheaper.

Happy boater.

If I am seeing the pictures correctly, that actually looks like a good solution. It looks to me like the nozzle is not cluttered up with cute little levers and sliders. Rather, the gas flow is controlled by pushing the green knob on the top of the outlet assembly. Am I right?

Bill, as a matter of fact, you insert the nozzle into the tank of the device, press
the green button and flow will stop when the level of fuel reaches the nozzle
preventing any overflow.

Default No-Spill gas can

For the sake of full disclosure and since Larry started this thread on the
subject of 'Transporting fuel', in the USA, the DOT requires a special cap be
used on the 5 gallon can.
See the details of the DOT cap here > Cap

There's also a extension hose for the nozzle to allow pouring gasoline into
a car or truck > extension

Just an FYI
