Default Charge controllers are an option

We have two separate solar systems on our house in Costa Rica, (24V for fridge and ceiling fans and 12V for lights w inverter for tv, radio, blender)with charge controllers (Steca brand)on each line in front of the 6V batteries..they aren't expensive. We have never had a problem of over charging the system but have been told that the batteries need to be periodically equalized to clean the plates by giving them a booster charge from the generator along with a good battery charger...I have no idea how that relates to the batteries on a RV since at least our old RV extra battery gets charged off of the 120AC line from the house while stored. We are semi novices about solar power even though we have been using solar only in CR for more than 20 years.

John -

Nonichris is right - there is a small inexpensive device called a charge controller that prevents overcharge. When you buy your panels, be sure you also buy a charge controller.

No, there is no master switch in the TM to cut off everything. But as long as you have a solar panel, you shouldn't need one, right?

Several of our members have installed battery cutoff switches, for storage when there is no source of power available. A SEARCH will turn them up.
