I'm glad that worked for you, Mike. Sadly, it didn't for me.
A good first try is to tighten down the packing nut. This often works on water valves. But this time it leaked again as soon as I opened the valve. There was enough propane leaking that I could smell it as soon as I opened the valve, and the soapy-water test confirmed the location of the leak. The only way to stop the leak was to close the valve tightly. I couldn't even use the tank enough to empty it. Hence my trip to the gas yard.
