...At $1,099 each Cabelas seems to have the lowest Internet price I can find for the Yamaha EF2400iS at the present time. Cabelas also has a $4.95 shipping offer that's only good for a few more days. It expires on 3/18/08. Insert the shipping code "38FLAT" at checkout to take advantage of the low shipping offer. In my experience they're an excellent firm to deal with.

Thanks for the tip. I even got one better at Cabelas. The let me buy the display model for 10% off + $20 off coupon...$1,054 after taxes. Easily paid for the gas...

I see that Yahaha has a YG2800i generator for about $100.00 more. It's lighter than the 2400 and has more output. Your opinion please.

Check the decibel level of the 2800. Remember that db are not linear so the few decibels louder is a lot louder than you think.

Joe,

Before there was an EF2400 I considered the EF/YG2800 series from Yamaha. When it comes to weight, runtime (3 Gal. tank), and size, I think it's a very good option. However as stated above, the noise levels are a higher (60/67) than all the other inverter types in the market. At 67 Dba (23 Ft) it is right at the limit of what is acceptable for the NF and at 60 Dba (25% load 700 watts) it's about 3 Dba louder than the "others" at full load. In theory you'll be within the guidelines and probably get the most watts per dollar.

I asked on RV.net about how noisy they are, and many owners told me they are very happy with them but they did acknowledge they are a little louder, tolerable but louder.
Like every think else in the RV world its about what you'll be comfortable with and what kind of camping you do.

Good luck deciding. I think those of us who consider a 2800 series are never 100% with whatever they decide. I opted for something else but I still press my nose against the glass every time the subject comes up.

Thank you Mario,

My wife love's the North Shore Tahoe area, between Truckee and Tahoe City. There's about five to six state campgrounds along the Truckee river before you get to Squaw Valley with no hook-ups at all. Of all of the times I've been in the area during the summer months, I've seen very few campers in any of these campgrounds. Long story short, not the same with other RV parks in the area. So now I'm in the process of looking for a generator that will operate my air condition unit and will work in the 5,000 to 7,000 feet above sea level. Just thinking the addition 400 watts would put me over the hump.

Sorry to go off topic for a moment, but Lars, I noticed your comment about Escalante, since we are planning on going there late May. I checked historic temps for that area, and although the daytime highs have been in the 90s, historic nightime lows have never risen above 55 degrees in July....you're talking about Grand Staircase Escalante, right?

When it comes to altitude issues, with Yamaha you're getting the same 5.5 HP/171 cc motor on the EF2400, EF2800, and the EF3000 so your EF2400 will perform the same as an EF2800 up to 2400 watts.
