Compressors can certainly go bad for a variety of reasons. What kind of AC do you have and how old is it?

The most common cause of compressor failure is running them on low voltage. When it's hot out, everybody in the CG turns on their AC. Most CGs don't have the capacity to run all of those AC units at once and the result will be low voltage.

It's not uncommon for CG voltage to drop below 105V when it's hot out. The compressor can't handle the strain of trying to run on that low voltage. It may over-heat and burn up. Even on a relatively new AC unit.

I always check the voltage at the outlet in my camper before turning on the AC. I have been known to run our AC on the generator even when camping with hook-ups for that very reason.

I have a 06 2720 and the AC is the standard low profile from RV Products.

I had it checked to day and I was told that it had a internal short due to the high amps it pulled when it was turned on....it poped the breaker straight away.....now if that is true I'm wonderning what could have caused it. The camp ground we were at had only maybe 8 people in the entire park.....so I don't think low voltage was the problem.

Another cause of compressor stall (the compressor won't start) is a bad start capacitor. Tell me, did it stink when it failed?

I had an airco failure in my first TM, and I panicked. It would blow air, but it wouldn't cool. And it stank. I took it to a local RV shop, and they assured me that it had to be replaced. I got an appointment behind 6 weeks of other people with appointments, and they replaced the entire airco. Fortunately it was under warranty, so although it wasn't free, the cost was prorated. I have since learned that the problem was almost certainly a bad start capacitor, and capacitor failures are much more common than compressor failures. Since the capacitor is $20, and the airco is $1000, be sure to check this possibility if you are paying for it yourself.

You also want to be careful not to turn it off then right back on. As the compressor will be trying to start with high internal pressure. There is a time delay to protect from this but that can occasionally fail. The compressor can not start if the High pressure side is is still high.

No it did not stink......the people at the dealer ship told me that it was sealed and that the smell would not enter the inside....but a tell tell sign would be if the cap was swolen...so they are gonna check it out.

The start capacitor is not inside the sealed compressor unit. It is just inside the case.

If it is the capacitor, It's a cheap, easy fix. It doesn't always "Stink" when it fails.
