Question hmmm.

6 db is a typo, obviously. But I would wonder, is this a true inverter/generator or more of an industrial/contractor's model? (TV's, computers, and stereos need CLEAN power. A/C and non-electronic power tools are much less finicky.) Who makes the engine, and who makes the Gen set ??? (Replacing a badly blown up Gen Set is, ummm, well... just buy a new Generator.)

Maybe it's a widely known/widely used engine (Tecumseh, Briggs and Stratton, Honda, Kohler), and most ANY small engine place can do maintenance. But they don't even say, that's not promising. There's a reason why people like me are willing to pay more, LOTS more, for a Yamaha ef2400is or a Honda: Yamaha has LOTS of factory-authorized service locations, and their quality is widely respected. And just because a generator is built with a Honda engine, doesn't make it "just like" a Honda generator, not by a long shot. Where do you go for service on this machine, without going or shipping it back to Arizona?

I've never seen ANYONE on the busier, more general message boards (Trailer Life, rv.net) says anything bad about the that Yamaha after they fixed the mounting in 2006. Many of these cheaper products are reliable enough, quiet enough, and supported "enough" to be a reasonable choice, but people only BRAG about these "competing" choices by showing how they got by for much, much less money... and haven't (yet?) been bit in the *** by having done so.

Well...their ad says 3-6 db but I was a skeptic so I typed in the number 6. It would be interesting if it is true........if it is...I bet it costs more then a Honda or a Yamaha. BTW...I got the info from an ad in the current Trailer Life mag. Of course any one can buy an ad. I do like the run time......awesome if true/accurate.

Default typo.

You're right to be suspicious of that figure. 6 dB is about the noise level of your own heart, wearing clothes and WITHOUT a stethoscope, when you are completely relaxed. You probably don't have access to a testing room where you can even hear something that quiet. It's nearly unimaginable.

Or, if it said 3-6 dB and passed proofreading, and they really meant it, don't even bother calling. It's just a miraculous #$&%* perpetual motion machine, and they're conniving liars. That's over 10,000 times quieter than any other generator, it can't possibly be using an internal combustion gasoline engine. So I wonder, where's that "12 gallons per 30-50 hours" going?

The ad does say 3-6 dB, and it is clearly an error. And yes, it does say 35-50 hours of run time, but that's with a 12-gallon external fuel tank. That's as much as my small Ford pickup truck! The Honda EU-2000i has an internal 1.1 gallon fuel tank, and claims 15 hours with the Eco-Throttle, so 35-50 hours of run time is probably right.

The real point, though, is that this is a physically HUGE generator. It is intended to be mounted in a sheet-steel enclosure on the bed of a semi-trailer hauler. Yes, it can be mounted on the back bumper of an RV / motor home - but you need a hitch rated at 500 pounds to carry it.

The thing that would scare me is that there is so little information about this unit. Nothing even resembling a spec sheet, for example. Bottom line - this is interesting, but not particularly relevant to TMs. Sorry.
