Default Battery Question

Our 2720SL (2006) came with a Kirkland 12V Deep Cycle Battery (Grp 24). Can someone recommend a good Grp 27 replacement that will fit into the same battery box?

Also, rather than try to modify the compartment for TWO 6V golf cart or two 12v batteries wired together, does it make sense to just keep the old Kirkland battery charged and in the back of the truck for backup? We generally boondock but no more than 2 or 3 nights out at a time. Our battery does recharge when we drive, too. (As long as the fridge is off)

What gave you the idea two GC2s won't fit ? (Note the factory vent behind them).

We use Exide Stowaways; got um at Tractor Supply for $90 a piece. This is a 105Ah 12 volt deep cycle, not a marine hybrid. It is not difficult to modify if you want to add a second battery. I just cut out a second recess for the second battery. If you don't want to do that, use expanding foam to fill the existing cut out then cover with plywood cut to fit the compartment. Mount you battery boxes to that.

I did not have the impression they wouldn't fit ... but did have the impression they should be kept in a battery box? Thanks for the picture, Padgett!

ScrubJaysNest: I have a tractor supply nearby, thanks for the recommend!

I enclosed them with plastic panels and built a base, just the TM makes the back and sides. Travel with the generator in the same compartment but can seal its fuel system. Vent is right above them & inside the "box". Would rather have AGMs but were twice the price. If this system works as well as it has, next set will be AGMs.
