I created a problem on our last dry camping trip. When it was time to turn on the Dometic refrigerator--Model N3023R on our 2922KD I was not careful in watching the panel lights...there are three: on/off, DC/AC and Auto/gas. Somehow in the hustle of setting up I set it to AC. We were on the battery (DC) at the time but my intention was to set it to GAS. I did notice some interesting whirring and clicking sounds when I was filling the water tank, but did not think much about it. After about an hour I went inside and as is my habit, checked the battery charge and was shocked to see we were down to 10 volts! This is when I realized the frig was set to AC and managed to reset it properly to GAS. I then hooked up our Honda 2000 watt generator and ran it for about an hour and a half to charge the battery. Well in no time at all it was down again! I thought I had completely ruined the battery. My better half suggested checking the fuse box. Visual inspection seemed normal, but when I touched the refrigerator circuit breaker it popped off. So, I reset the breaker, added a little distilled water to the battery and then it charged fully and seemed fine the next eight days. I wonder if there was a short circuit with the circuit breaker not completely popping to off.
So..the moral to this tale is be sure how you set your fridge. I really thought I was going to have to buy an new 27 series deep cycle battery and the nearest place to buy one was over thirty minutes away. I'm sure I didn't help the life span of the present battery, but wanted to share this with the forum in case this happens to anyone else. I can't believe I was ready to go buy a new battery until my DW suggested checking the fuse box
