Default Switch on vent

I have a switch on the roof vent that the book says will turn on brass lights in front area, I do not have any lights in the front so do not know what this switch does, it is a 2001 3023, any ideas?

I'm not familiar with your unit, but if you had the lights the switch would operate them! You might check in the corners of the front cupboard and make sure it is not wired...maybe previous owner took them out.

Thank you, I guess that is what has happened, can't find any signs of where the lights could have been.

In 2002, TMs had the so-called "elegant lights", a pair of brass wall fixtures with shades, mounted on the sidewalls beneath the overhead bookcase/cubby. I think the 2001 models had them as well, but by 2004 they were gone. They were discussed in this thread in 2001

At any rate, the vibration of travelling made these lights troublesome - the bulbs lost contact in the sockets, the filaments broke quite often, and the shades dropped off and got squished or disappeared. Somewhere between the 2002 model (which I owned) and the 2006 model (which I own now), TM stopped using the elegant lights, and substituted garden variety eyeball floods mounted on the underside of the bookcase. Later, I think they substituted rather ugly surface-mount lights, same as the ones on the ceiling.

Possibly a previous owner removed the lights and patched and papered over the holes in the wall. Does your TM have a black knob, a rotary switch, in any of the fan openings? If so, the wires are dead-ended back there somewhere, and you could add lights if you chose.

My 2009.5 has the eyeball floods mounted under the front cabinet. My rocker switch to operate them is in the vent as indicated. We call them "mood" lights...

My 2001 had the brass lights and the issues that Bill mentions. I replaced them with normal RV fixtures. But, I kind of like the idea of eyeball floods....
