Default Window film

First I'd like to say that I can't imagine muddling through this learning curve without this website! I can't thank all of you enough for the help!

Anyway, we installed film on the inside of all the windows of our old gas hog and loved it. We pulled the TM out today and checked to see what it would take to do the same with it.

I would love for one of you to tell me that you have figured out how to do this without completely dismantling the windows. Dang those curved corners, screens that don't come out, etc.

We are considering trying film installation on the outside of the windows as our TM is in the garage too darn much!

Thanks in advance!
Malinda

I haven't done it yet but have done the research & I also took it to a professional tint place. The tint guy said he didn't think he could get the tint in behind the screen properly without removing the screens.

So here is what I have figured out will be the easiest way so far:
1. Remove curtains & valance
2. Remove the inner ring of the window because the screen bead isn't accessible without removing it unfortunately.
3. Remove the screen bead so the screen will come out.
4. Tint the windows

Reinstall screen, inner ring, valance & curtains in reverse order.

Our windows are tinted somewhat from factory but I do plan on darkening them at some point but so far my research shows this will be a bigger & more complicated project than I want to tackle for now. Maybe next year though.

I also know I am not the smartest tool in the tool shed so someone else may have a better approach than what I have come up with so far.

I can't imagine adding tint to the TM windows. Mine aren't quite limo-dark but if you are standing outside during the daytime you can't see much but shadows inside. Perhaps the newer vintage TMs are getting more tint than older ones.

If I had the same darkness you have on my 2008 I would be happy but I don't. Your 2009 has a few nice upgrades one of them being darker windows. We like our privacy we even have extremely dark tint on our home windows. You can't see in them at all in the daytime & we close blinds at night.

On camping trips we have noticed it is easy to look in day & night so darkening our windows is on my list of things to do & would be done already if it was easier.

Just look at my sig pic if you do you will notice mine aren't as dark as yours. You make me jealous with your LED's & Dark Windows

That avatar pic of mine probably makes the windows look darker than normal because it was an extremely bright day.

However, the point of that avatar pic was to make you (and every one else) jealous of that camping spot, LOL! That is El Capitan State Park spot 132. Not only is the view of the ocean just plain amazing, the park maps and signage stop at number 131 so the spot is that much more special.

Yeah Yeah you say it is for the view but we know you are just rubbing in those fancy LED's & dark tinted windows that all of us want especially those that could have waited a few more months & got them

Ps. the view is AWESOME though!!

No rear stone guards. I wonder if it has to do with that window being an emergency exit.

I'm too lazy to go through all that work so what I did was go shopping at Home Depot and bought a roll of foil insulation. It's about 1/4th in. thick and reflects the suns heat very well. It comes in a 24 foot roll and the width is the right size to cover any window in the TM. I cut one for each window and put these behind the curtains on the sun side.
When not in use I store under the mattress. Here's what it looks like.
