I know for a fact that our 97 has aluminum tubing in the upper shell. I don't know if it's all over the upper shell. I can see it in the front lower corners and have had to drill into it to make repairs. Haven't had to drill into anything in the lower shell so far and the construction isn't visible. The repairs were to the main catches that secure down the shell while traveling.
