Valances are done! (Well, have to Varathane, but that's easy work now).

My big goals were:
Make something stronger to hang curtains. Those cheapie Walmart style hooks that screw into the wall were breaking off very easily. If I break them that easily, the rest of my family would take care of them in minutes!

Use real solid wood only. The frames are made from 1/2x3/4" stock

Low profile. These are about 2 1/4 high and deep.
