I can second the Myrtle Beach sites, we also found great campgrounds in Charleston and Hilton Head which may be closer for you. We thoroughly enjoyed Cherokee NC in the Smokies back in the late 90s when camping with our kids. Lots of outdoor activities to choose from in the cooler mountain air. It's hot here in NC but we find many places to go within about a 5 hr radius.
