The AC on the 2000 is probably in the side cabinet. I think the switch occurred in 2001 or 2002.

My front shell is also heavy to lift. When fully up, the torsion bar is no longer in contact with the adjustment bolt, and the adjustment bolt is maxed out. Somewhere on this site I did see an adjustment procedure that came straight from TM. It had something to do with setting the TM up, then adjusting the bolt until it would just contact the torsion bar, then add a certain number of turns.

It seems that after 15 years the torsion bars do weaken. I'm going to look around locally and see if some one can fabricate a torsion bar for me.
