Default Towing 2720SL with '04 Pilot

We tow with the Pilot - not nearly as much as we would like though . Between the Pilot's limitations and our "only two of us now" camping style, we decided on the 2720SL. I did not allow myself the full 4,500# capactiy for a boat but did take credit for 4,000#, rather than the 3,500# for trailers, in my calculations. The TM tows nicely at 60-65 on flat ground; able to step on it a bit more to pass on the Interstate 5 dragstrip.
I do have (and will not go without) the weight distribution hitch (WDH) though Honda recommends against it. Discussion and suppositions on this forum, and others, lead most of us to believe the recommendation is driven by the legal dept rather than engineering. My dealer initially set up my WDH with 3 links hanging for the 75 mile trip home. I was a bit uncomfortable not knowing how much weight this was putting on the TV axles (through the uni-body construction) so I towed the next time with one link hanging. I was able to weigh all axles at a CAT scale and find I was well within specs for the TV and TM. I dropped to 2 links hanging and re-weighed, only to find I was still within specs with some margin so I left it there. The handling was much better than only one link hanging.
I did get 15.5 MPG running on flat ground into a quartering wind. I also made a short swing into the Sierra foothills to ~ 1,500 ft without any problem. Not enough distance in the hills to determine mileage there though.
I was asked about my "weighing" experience in the Camping Stories section (probably the wrong area for this type of info?) so I owe a post there; I intend to get this done later today so please check my posts for additional details on axle weights etc. for a Pilot with a 2720SL.
Good Luck,
Mark
