You need to be able to say "NO!" when they ask if you have any firewood anywhere in your rig. Don't even try it - it just isn't worth the hassle.
I imagine there are several other commodities that need the same answer, so try to do your homework. Out west it is "citrus". In the north Atlantic area it might be "shellfish" or "lobster".
And if you have a pet, be sure you understand the rules in that area. We had to cancel an entry to Canada once because we didn't have a health certificate from a vet, signed just before the trip within a relatively narrow time window.
