There was a short period of time in which the A/C was mounted on the rear roof, with the power cord hanging down. You had to plug the cord into an outlet - I don't know where the outlet was located. I think that enough people found this to be annoying that TM moved the A/C unit into one of the kitchen cupboards.
Anyway, a rear roof mounted A/C could have been installed by an owner, but was quite possibly original equipment. An owner retrofit would have been tough (though not impossible) to do, since it would involve changing out all four of the torsion bars that lift the rear shell.
