Last time I was in Orlando (Disney Site), I went over to Winter Park, FL, which is not very far and is a different world from Disney. Downtown is quiet and one can sit on bench swings and watch the hikers/bikers go by while eating delicious ice cream. The hiker/bikers come through Winter Park on an old rail road track that has been converted and paved into a hiking/biking/skateboarding trail called the Cady Way Trail.

Although the link below (1st link) shows pictures from the "South Head" (Orlando) of Cady Way Trail", the newer "North Head" path actually starts in Winter Park and heads Westward through mostly rural, old Florida areas. Along the way, there is a small botanical park that has a long board walk that reaches out through restoration lands to one of the "Chain of Lakes" (Lake Apopka?) where the historical marker states quite honestly how the area looked when only Native Americans were there and how it changed up to current times including who killed most all the fish in the "Chain of Lakes". I went in August and early in the morning! In the Winter time, I would pick a sunny day to go when it's usually in the 70's .

Nice trip for kid and adults to bike or lengthy hike. After the 1st link, I've also put a link to the home site for "Rails to Trails" projects in all states. Some really great non-commercial fun!
