Default Salt Springs Recreation Area (FL)

We highly recommend the Salt Springs Recreation Area Campground. We decided (on the spur of the moment) to head out on Saturday morning and we got a great site and enjoyed our "one night adventure." The sites are part of a "rolling green," with few trees and a lot of "neighbor" interaction, but very clean, orderly and quiet.

This campground is part of the USDA/Ocala National Forest group and is equipped with electric/water/sewer at many of the sites (all for $26/night). (It was a privately held campground, but when the owners died their children gave it to the USDA.) You also get access to Salt Springs (which runs $5.50/person for day passes)---and you all should know, Florida Springs are the BEST!!

We haven't yet "graduated" to boondocking with our 4 young children (ages 5, 4, 2 and 9months). We will, but until then, this will be a great place to visit for a quick night away in our rolling home! That is, if we get back anytime soon! Daddy tells the kids that we have too many more places to see/explore!!

On a side note, we are LOVING having the TM in the garage and equipped with everything that we need to "hit the road" in a moment's notice. In fact, on Saturday morning, we made the decision to go and were on the road in 2 hours flat!! With many young kids, that is a miracle!! We credit this site for giving us the direction to plan/pack efficiently and know what/how to get going--QUICK!

Happy Camping!!
