This sounds like Thousand Trails, Escapees and others. In my opinion, you have to do an awful lot of camping in given locations to justify the membership cost.
As we travel, we rarely pay more than $20/night and have the freedom to go wherever we want without pre-planning to stop at a membership campground.
It works for some folks, and not for others.
