For scenic the Smoky Mountain /Blue Ridge Parkway is great.
For interest there a lot of places in Virginia-- Williamsburg, Gettysburg battle field, Arlington Cemetery, Yorktown, Colonial Williamsburg are a few. All have tours, many by park Rangers that are free! As my Marine is based there we have visited the area several times and can tell you more, send my a message if you want.
I have been through the other states but will leave it to people more familiar to give you some good places to visit.
