I, personally, am very anti-Apple, anti-Mircosoft anything. I tend to go for open source - Android, Open Office, etc. IMHO, companies who lock down everything, and make it as proprietary as Apple & Microsoft, really don't give two shakes about anything, except making lots and lots of money. And quite frankly, I don't think their products are worth what they charge. In the fast pace world of technology, why spend $2K for a laptop (unless high-end specific for a task, such as Alienware/graphics), that is only going to be obsolete and outdated in 6 months or less.
