We used 1" aluminum square tubing, duplicating what TM used, on everything. The outside edges we used cedar wood or poplar (from TM, came in the "repair kit") that we coated with Thompson's Water Seal first. If you study the pictures I posted, you can see where we took a length of aluminum tubing, glued and screwed on the wood to one side of it, then installed it with the wood out, so as to have a good surface to staple the bag seal, etc. We used the same technique throughout the project.
