OK....there should be a 1" hole in these brackets....if that is the case then try to fit a piece of pipe or a breaker bar in there so you might get some leverage to bend them straight...if you can't then you need a bigger hammer...or...you could send that carrier back and try to get a refund and then put that spare tire on the rear bumper like I did when I went to 16"tires.
