In the SL model, there is an extension (like your dining-room table) for the street-side table. When you slip it into place, it provides more surface area for plates, silverware, etc. The extension doesn't quite fill the gap in the middle, but the gap becomes narrow enough that it can be tough for the cook to slip through it and get to the kitchen. And four people on the couch can be a pretty cozy crowd. We don't often have four adults eating at once, but when we do, we have found that a small collapsible table in front of the chair is a better solution.
On the other hand, we like the couch a lot. It is very comfortable, and faces the center of the trailer. For two people (or three), we feel it is ideal.
To each his own.
