We are seriously considering buying a Trailmanor, but my brother-in-law just spoke to a mechanic who used to work for a dealer and he said that these trailers are prone to leaking during rain with any little side wind. We never saw any mention of this anywhere else, but considering how expense a purchase like this is, we wanted to check it out. Please give us some honest advice.

We were camping this past weekend and it rained for 16 hours straight, sometimes so hard you could not hear the airconditioner running or pop corn popping in the micro wave. winds varied from 15mph to 40+ and from a number of directions. Not a drop on the inside. My opinion is obviously at odds with your brother's. FWIW (for what it's worth)

Well, I will get back to you on Monday. I have a 10 year old 2518. I am leaving for a Dog Agility trial in about 30 min. It is a 4 day trial in Dixon CA where it has been raining non stop all week and according to weather.com, it will continue to do so until Monday. I can say that I have left it open for the last 3 days in pouring rain and have seen no leaks so far. I purchased it last June so we haven't had to camp in rain so far. If we don't leak in the next 4 days, I for one will be convinced. Of course it may be hard to tell with 2 wet humans and 3 wet dogs living in it for 4 days.
I'm off to the mud fest! Now, this is my idea of fun!!

I was in a light rain with light wind this past weekend in my 2005 TM 2720. Not a single drop got in, even when closing in the rain and wind.

I did have condensation on the inside of the windows.

WE were in our 2619 TM for 2+ months and got home this past friday. We were in rain and wind many times. We stayed dry. While towing in heavy rain, our
TM stayed dry.

We were in a moderate thunderstorm this past weekend. It rained pretty hard for about a half hour. Ours didn't leak a bit.

We do two small leaks in our 1988 TM 26. Both are around the skylights. The previous owner replaced them and I don't think they were sealed correctly when they were installed. I know that I can see daylight looking up through one of the skylights with it completely closed. I'm waiting for the rains to stop so I can make the necessary repair. I don't think this is an inherent problem with the trailer.

Recently at the beach we had rain for 12 hours, wind at a constant 20 knts 45 degrees off the front, door side, and not a drop inside. I even had the two ceiling vents cracked about a quarter of an inch for ventilation (given the wind direction) and still no leaks.

The DW and I are presently on a trip which so far has taken us to Nashville from CT. We made a stop at Natural Bridge VA. and during our stay we had heavy rain and winds. The wind was so strong that the camper next to us had a tree (alive and healthy) land on the roof of his unit. No leaks here. By the way the neighboring camper is fine.

Was in Knoxville when the tornados hit near Nashville. We had very heavy thunder storms all night in our area and again no leaks here.

p.s. We did visit the TM factory during this trip. Was very informative. The staff are great.

Only leak we ever had was from the AC backing up when camping in FL during July, Extremely hot and humid. Learned that week to keep the back of the trailer slightly lower than the front to allow the water from the AC to drain better. We have been through a number of storms with no leaks from them at all.

Happy Camping,
Al

Have been in our TM through torrential downpours, sometimes teamed with blowing winds. THe only moisture was condensation on a really rotten weekend when we brought in wet clothing and turned on the heat -- ended up with steam. LOL Well engineered camper! Queeniereads aka Judi

... from lousy sealant in the seams. However, the TM isn't prone to leak in side-ways rain. I've never gotten water in at the sides.

Our trailer, bought used, leaked badly the first time we took it out. The dealer we bought it from had power-washed it and a lot of sealant was just gone. In my mind, shame on us for not checking before driving away. Since the holes in the roof sealant were obvious to the eye I can't blame anyone but us! However, we went camping the next weekend and all it did the entire time was rain. It rained while we were putting it up, it rained while we were putting it down, and it rained the entire time in between! We dried up the drips, took it home, and did what we should have done earlier: checked all seams and re-did the sealants where needed. This is actually something you should do at least every year.

BTW: The drips we got in the trailer were not from putting it up and taking it down in the rain, just from the bad sealants. I figured out then and there that I just loved this trailer!

We have been through some frog stranglers. Our TM did leak from the ceiling vents. I slightly tightened the set screws under the molding and not had a leak since. I think the silicon caulking around the vents has begun to peel away. I think a fellow has to recaulk a bit ever year. The larger seals around the TM has not leaked. I do not see possible leaking as a real reason not to camp in a TM. No one will be unhappy with the TM overall preformance. I plan a romantic get away with the family next weekend. I hope it,s cool and rainy. A quite Satuday at a lonely state park will be nice. We'll watch alittle TV play card games. Try our hand at cooking new camper dishes. Walk some trails. Listen to rain and wildlife. Maybe...yes let me go on and say it...maybe see this year's bear cubs with their moms. Happy Easter.

well, we're back and happy to say, no leaks!. As I said, I had it set up in the driveway for 3 days prior to our trip with lots of heavy rain. The sky opened up once again as I was closing it up preparing to tow. Not a drop got inside during the process. We had showers and occasional heavy rain on Wed, Thur, and Sun. of our trip with no problems! I was very happy with the experience.
This weekend we will go back in and work on the muddy mess created by 4 days 3 dogs and 2 humans in the mud and muck.

I washed the TM this weekend. My hose has 90 pounds of pressure and I used a pressure nozzle like you would use to rinse the driveway. Even when blasting the sides and windows not a single drop got inside. All seals, windows, vents and door performed flawlessly.

I'd be interested in finding out how anyone gets water inside, other than leaving doors, windows and vents open.

We camped all weekend this weekend, it rained its butt off on and off all weekend till Sun. Not a drop inside!

I was a bit envious of this guys Toy Hauler trailer till his mother came out of the bedroom talking about how "the bed was soaked". Felt bad for them. Good for me.

We had one leak in a window when we first got it, but the dealer fixed it and it hasn't leaked since. Until we got a cover for the TM we had it sitting in our driveway for part of the winter. And believe me it rains a lot here, but no more leaks. We do have one water problem though. When we travel and it's raining, there is some water on the vinyl seals after we set it up, and some of the curtains are damp. I keep reading different posts about the TM being set up in the rain and staying completely dry. Could something be wrong with ours because it isn't completely dry? Or could it be that we don't get it set up fast enough?

Thanks,
Jo Ann

When I fill my 40 gallon tank to the max, some water sloshes out the vent tube during travel, resulting in some water on the front most street side curtains.

Other than that, not a drop, but I don't often drive in the rain. It shouldn't rain anymore now until Halloween.

Our group gave our TMs the ultimate test. We were camping together in a rather large flat area. During a couple hour's time, we had every type weather that one could imagine. It snowed horizontally, it rained horizontally, the wind blew mercilously, it hailed, and we had a tornado warning in the campground. We were all sitting comfortably and warmly inside our TMs watching things blow by. Then we saw our portable awning that had been staked down doing flip flops past our window. Not a drop of water inside. Oh yes, and we also had some sunshine.

Leon,

We do close the curtains which as we discovered does make a difference, but some are still a little damp. The seals I'm referring to are the ones with the velcro. I have to wipe some of them off. One time underneath the mattress of our bed was wet. I just wondered if this was a normal thing to happen.

Thanks,
Jo Ann

We camped in the rain our first trip out this past weekend...and the TM stayed absolutely dry!
