Door County is the "Thumb" of the Wisconsin mitten. A penisnula with Lake Michigan on one side, Green Bay on the other. A cool and quiet part of the country with number of quaint villages and shops.

We stopped there for a few days after the Oshkosh fly-in and found it to be one of the neatest summer places we've ever been. The Peninsula State Park is a great spot, but be sure to get reservations as it is very popular.

I have been told (but cannot verify) that all the old railroad lines on the peninsula have been paved for bikes and hiking.

It's berry country (as opposed to Bear country in the Rockies) so the pies and goodies are fresh and wonderful in late summer. Be sure to sign up for a "whitefish boil" at one of the local restaurants, and go early to watch the boil ceremony. All you TM scientists will enjoy the salt water physics as well as a wonderful dinner.

There are a number of interesting tours and good campgrounds around all the great lakes--we ended up on the other side of Lake Michigan at Mackinac Island--to choose from.
